All or Nothing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mjv90uwusQ

They can play "let's pretend"
Make 'em like them my best friend
Telling their lies
And they can scheme behind my back
Make fiction not a fact
Try to re-write my life

But they ain't got a clue
If I were in their shoes
I'd shut right up

Take me as I am
Or not at all
I ain't ever gonna change myself for no one
No compromise
'Cause it's my life
It's all or nothing.

They can laugh all they like
Got no need to justify
I am who I am
And they can do their worst if they dare
If it makes them happy we don't care
It's out of their hands

'Cause they ain't got a clue
If we were in their shoes
We'd shut right up

Take us as we are
Or not at all
We ain't ever gonna change ourselves for no one
No comprosmise 'cause it's our life
It's all or nothing.

Take me as I am
Or not at all
I ain't ever gonna change myself for no one
Not compromise 'cause it's my life
It's all or nothing.

Singapore is not the best place. i agree. but that does not mean that you have to put your own country down, or even the countrymen down. especially in front of other singaporeans.

Singapore may not be the best place to stay in or to develop ideas, we may be very structured and focus on education. but not all Singaporeans are stuck in the structure. Not all singaporeans conform you see.

Singapore may not be all in all as good as other country, but what happened to Singaporean's pride. what happened to country's loyalty. Singapore has provided you for you to grow up, even if you don't like who you are now because of the system here, the least you can do is not to put Singapore/Singaporeans down with your words. this is like biting the hands that fed you. and its not very nice especially when you expressed yourself out like that in front of other singaporeans. yup, you can be fancy free. but pls don't talk bad abt others in front of them?

Its not perfect/liberal here. but because I am born here, and because I am a Singaporean, I will love my country. Breaking free from its structure, but yet building a better Singapore.

Seeking first the Kingdom of God

seek <b>first </b>the kingdom of God and His Righteousness and <b>all</b>&nbsp;these things shall be added to you.

Draw me, O draw me away. I long to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. I pray that I will never leave His house, but always staying in it, staying close to Him, and always longing for His presence. I pray I will never become cold, but always on fire for God. I don't ever want to leave His presence, ever!

this christmas has been quite an interesting one.. i did receive presents, but its all the stuff that people would give to any other person.. biscuits, chocolates and the likes. i did receive a well-made card by one person. and saw 6 friends responding to the altar call. time for follow-ups. =)

last christmas i saw myself receiving much more christmas cards and such, and this year less. maybe because more people are getting attached? ;)

but heck, the season's not about me. its about Jesus' birthday! =) last night, before i fell asleep, my last words were, happy birthday Jesus. with a smile. Christmas must mean something more.

Upper Room

I have been really blessed. all my birthday wishes are really coming true.

1. portable amp. ++ new guitar, strap, bag
2. headphones. ++ sunglasses
3. new shirts. ++ new jeans

Indeed God is able to do much more than what we ask for. all the "++"es are not my birthday wishes, but indeed they have been added onto me. God is really good and faithful, and as I put His kingdom first, all these things were added onto me. wasn't easy to put His kingdom first though, its a sacrifice.

just because I didn't flow that well with the worship leader doesn't reflect my quiet time with God. Somehow someone just thought there was a correlation, but my relationship with God is for no one but God. I do not boast about my quiet time with God, neither do I want to attribute my successes that I had to the quiet time that I had with God, but its by God's grace that I am able to achieve those stuff. my quiet time with God is just simply to seek God and His presence, to be renewed and recharged daily. To lift my prayer request to Him and to daily submit myself to Him. I don't give credit to my quiet time, but to my God, His grace abounding for the good works in my life. It is in no rights of any man or woman to judge another person's quiet time.

but speaking of quiet time, just a point of reflection. How's your upper room doing? For some, perhaps its due for a spring cleaning, dusty and with cobwebs everywhere. for some, its speck and span. How's yours doing?

The upper room is where you seek God and where you meet God face to face. Body, soul and spirit involvement in seeking and it is where the glory of God dwells. It is where the solutions to our problems lies, and where we encounter God, we can find comfort, peace and love of God, where Rhema manifests and where the whole world just fades and its just you and God. everyone have got their own upper room. maybe they call it in a different name. secret place, prayer closet etc. but its one and the same.

so, how's your upper room? perhaps its time to visit there once again, and be consistent in that. perhaps the buzz of life has taken over your time to visit that place again. set aside time to visit that place once again. you'll be amazed at what you'll find in there.best of all, it is at where you are. you don't need talents, you don't need skill. all you need is a willing heart, an open, sensitive, patient heart. its a whole new way of living when you set your heart on seeking and pleasing God.

i'll just side-track a bit. God is amazing, being able to turn situations around. what seems to be a bad thing turned to good. arguments turn into a strengthened faith in God, sickness turned into seeing the truth of life and turning to God, ridiculing turned into an opportunity to share faith with friends. I stand in amazement just looking at all the things that has been happening around me and thanking God for them. a calculative brother becomes generous. and one that is so distracted, so curious about so many things now focusses on his vision. so much has happened this year, but I believe there is more to come. 2009 has been a year of great change, but 2010 is gonna be a greater year yet. gonna take the campus by storm =)

Phil 2:14-16

Phi 2:14-16
Do all things without complaining or disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without a fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

Many of us have always said that we want to be the salt and light in this generation. What is the key? “do all things without complaining or disputing…” What does it actually mean to be complaining and disputing? Does this mean that we bottle up our emotions, suck our thumbs and go and do it? Let’s break things down.

What is the true essence of complaining?

Complaining is an attitude that one has when trapped in a situation. There are the complainers of Israel, because of their complaints; a whole generation was denied the Promised Land. Hear the disciples complain to Jesus, “Jesus, look, the storms are here and you are still sleeping!” or “We’re too tired, can’t pray with you for an hour…”

Complaining is having a passive attitude of defeat, of a battle being lost even before it has been fought. It is a cry of helplessness, and the only way of expressing it out is through complaints. It is a non-participating stand, whereby the circumstances has control and the complainer does not have control over their circumstances, thus allowing their circumstances to defeat them.

We are born to be more than conquerors. We are in a new generation whereby old things have past, and all things are made new. If God is with us, who can be against us? We are meant to rule and reign with Christ in the new Age. There is nothing, there is no one that can/would bring us down. You are a ruler over your circumstances, not your circumstances ruling over you. Your response reflects on your attitude. Know this, that God will never put you through something that He knows will break you, that He knows you cannot take.

So, instead of saying, “why is my leader like that?”, say “what can I do to work together with my leader for the ultimate good of the cell group?”. Instead of saying, “I can’t help it. I was born with this condition. I am still trying to overcome this area. I can’t help feeling like this. I have a tendency to do this kind of thing”, rather say “what can I do to further overcome these areas. What can I do to breakthrough. What can I do to bring growth?” In essence, the opposite of complaining is involvement. Get involved with the things around you, get engaged. Engage your circumstances and have a conquerors mindset, that nothing is going to bring me down, because I have got God on my side. Never become a complainer. Become a victor of your circumstances. Don’t be a passive complainer, be an active player, an agent of change in your environment.

Coming to the next point, what is disputing?

Is disputing disagreement? Is disagreements and differing opinions wrong? As a matter of fact, I learnt a lot from disagreements. Because each and everyone has their own differing opinions, they bring a new perspectives to things, thus giving me a wider perspective on certain issues.

However disputes are more than just disagreements or having differing opinions. Disputes are disagreements taken to a higher level. It is when these disagreements replaces the priority of relationships. Definitely in relationships there will be disagreements and different opinions, but it is when you decide to put aside these differences, to come to a common understanding that, though we have differing opinions, we can still be friends. That is why it is ok to have non-Christian friends, or even friends from another religion.

But when people put their differences, or what they see wrong in another person, above forming a relationship with them, it is when disputes happen. Disagreements does not tear any group apart. Disagreement does not break up relationships. Disputes does. When people cannot tolerate each other’s differences, there is dispute.

People need to know that though there may be disagreements, attitudes, values or beliefs that they may not approve, they can still be friends; it is a relationship can happen. And it is only through relationship that a change can take place. God is not against disagreements or challenging opinions, no. What He’s against is people putting these differences, putting these issues above building a relationship, thus hindering the unity of the group/friendship.

Attitudes have to change. Bad habits have to go. New habits have got to replace them. It is a simple lesson, yet it takes much effort to break out of the old habits/mindsets/thinking and to embrace God’s way of living. In all we do, we must not be complainers (having a passive, negative attitude of the situation around) but doers (active players in making the most out of every situation and emerging victorious from it). We must not have disputes (placing disagreements or differing beliefs/opinions above relationships) but it is ok to have disagreements. In this we will become blameless, harmless children of God, without a fault, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, shining as lights in the world. Amen.
